Photographs from «A Greek Portfolio» were exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, and work from the books is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Living in Greece for three years, Constantine Manos, a member of Magnum Photos, travelled the countryside in search of images that captured the character and beauty of a way of life that had been virtually unchanged for centuries but has since been overtaken by the modern world. Etched into the faces, he found, are a strength and a dignity that reflect survival, honour and continuity.
